Times Tables Grid 1-12

Quick recall of times tables is the single most important skill for the SATs arithmetic paper. If your child has to stop and work out 7 x 8 every time, they'll run out of time before they reach the harder questions. Print this grid, stick it somewhere visible, and practise until every answer is instant.

Tips for Learning Times Tables

  • Start with the easy ones. The 1, 2, 5 and 10 times tables are quick wins. Once those are solid, move to 3, 4 and 6.
  • Use the commutative property. If you know 3 × 7, you already know 7 × 3. That halves the number of facts to learn.
  • Focus on the tricky ones. Most children find 6 × 7, 7 × 8, 8 × 6 and 12 × 7 the hardest. Give these extra attention.
  • Little and often. Five minutes every day is far more effective than a long session once a week.
  • Test in random order. Chanting tables in order builds a rhythm but not instant recall. Shuffle the questions.

Once your child is confident with the grid, try the Times Tables Checker for timed practice with instant scoring.
